Polymyalgia Rheumatica (PMR)
Inflammatory disorder primarily affecting older adults, widespread muscle pain and stiffness.
Overview
PMR causes pronounced aching and stiffness in the shoulders, neck and hips, usually in adults over 50. It responds dramatically to treatment, and it can accompany giant cell arteritis — a condition requiring urgent attention to protect vision.
How we treat it
Prompt diagnosis, carefully tapered therapy, and vigilance for giant cell arteritis throughout the course of treatment.
