Polymyositis (PM) and Dermatomyositis (DM)
Rare inflammatory myopathies, characterized by muscle weakness and inflammation.
Overview
These inflammatory myopathies attack muscle tissue, producing progressive weakness in the muscles closest to the trunk. Dermatomyositis adds distinctive skin findings and warrants additional screening.
How we treat it
Diagnosis through enzyme testing, imaging and biopsy where indicated, followed by immunosuppressive therapy paired with rehabilitation to rebuild strength.
